Transpersonal Psychology Classes & Holotropic Breathwork
The transpersonal school of psychology synthesises the knowledge and traditions coming from modern consciousness research, the work of transpersonal psychology founders such as Carl Jung and Stanislav Grof, psychedelic research, somatic psychotherapy, as well as Eastern, shamanic and Indigenous perspectives.
The Ox-head School of Transpersonal Psychology is pleased to be offering classes in this radical branch of psychology at Prana House in Thornbury, on Sunday afternoons beginning mid-september 2020.
The most recent discoveries and insights into human consciousness, stemming from the transpersonal traditions, indicate that all emotional and psychosomatic disorders have a multidimensional and holographic structure. An entirely new map of the psyche, and psychopathology aetiology have indicated important connections with transpersonal, perinatal and biographical levels of experience.
This has opened up entirely new perspectives for therapy and healing. These classes will explore in-depth this relatively new transpersonal perspective and draw from a wide category of subjects and interesting models within the field, such as Ken Wilber’s integral vision, Roberto Assagioli's psychosynthesis, neo-Reichian techniques of somatic psychotherapy, archetypal astrology, the Enneagram, and the radical assertions of modern consciousness research. Furthermore, equal treatment will be given to Eastern practices such as, qigong, Advaita Vedanta (or nonduality) and Buddhist Psychology.
These classes will combine theoretical presentations and process exercises which will invite participation in experiential psychotherapeutic techniques which stimulate the psyche and nervous system in such a way as to produce non-ordinary states with incredible heuristic potential. Such techniques include bioenergetics, trauma releasing exercises, Dr Stan Grof’s holotropic breathwork and nonduality, self-enquiry.
